I kind of loved the grasshopper nickname even as I was non-plussed by it. I thought it was pretty awesome that Alistair actually had a pet name for Dean. My god! It's just like fanfic! ;)
What part of Dean was left behind in Hell? I thought it was interesting how Sam said that Dean wasn't strong enough to do it anymore, because something happened to him 'below'. It begs the question; so Dean was strong enough, monstrous enough to drag the truth from a higher-level demon before he spent 10 years in hell learning under the master? I think Dean left behind a defining line between himself and evil that had governed his strength for pretty much his entire life up until that point.
In the Biblical Apocalypse, God is in control -- but the world still ends. Exactly, so is Dean's role to help it along, or halt it? It's ... ineffable. ;)
