So I wander on, till someone else is saved
We don't Eat - by James Vincent McMorrow

In celebration of the black-and-blue discordant and brotherly, fucked up and co-dependent, violent and streamlined, mythically touched-in-the-head, horror and dread-struck, epically improved first two episodes of (and a third that while not so brilliant, did not discourage me from the notion that this show has stepped it up a notch) Supernatural, I give you the most Winchester-y song to ever Winchester.

Am I an honest man and true?
Have I been good to you at all?
Oh I'm so tired of playing these games
We'd just be running down
The same old lines, the same old stories of
Breathless trains and, worn down glories
Houses burning, worlds that turn on their own

So we don't eat until your father's at the table
We don't drink until the devil's turned to dust
Never once has any man I've met been able to love
So if I were you my friend, I'd learn to have just a little bit of trust.

This has been an entry. Talk to me about leviathans and Lucifer and lights at the end of the tunnel please.

Gold Guns Girls
I was reading this post by [personal profile] paperhearts, which is about the issue she takes with the female leads in series such as Castle and The Mentalist. Among her fine points, was this:

These men (who are not law enforcement officers nor have any law enforcement training) step in, and with a little hocus pocus, manage to do the woman's job better than she does. Never mind that neither of these men have gone through a police academy or received formal training, all it takes is writing crime novels or being a fake psychic to slide in and neatly out-perform a woman who has worked her way for years up the ranks. Worse yet, Lisbon and Beckett are made at times to look incompetent, uncreative, unable to think outside of a box.

And I realized, that this was in fact why I hadn't ever given these shows the time of day. I had always passed them over, for no real, conscious reason, even though, on paper, the characters of Castle and Patrick Jane sound like the kind that I just adore having on my television laptop screen.

I think, therefore genderswap meta. )

Supernatural 5.14
Okay, so I finally got to watch My Bloody Valentine.

Scattered thoughts + picspam. )

Also, vid rec:

Nowhere to Stop.

My comment was that it brought to the forefront the chilling, but subtle horror of Castiel's situation, trapped in a world he doesn't belong to, in skin that isn't his.
Quite apart from the beautiful, bone-chilling skill with which this is put together, the song is just terrifyingly perfect.

It's very timely, actually, considering this fascinating meta by [personal profile] facetofcathy on the stastics of the burgeoning Leverage fandom activity, and the surprising lack of Alec Hardison, the One Geek to Rule Us All. (Okay, that last bit was all me.)

This is mine.
(Spoilery, obviously. Set immediately post-finale to the prompt: You-Know-Who is suddenly right there.)

The [livejournal.com profile] spn_summergen have gone out, and I'm very happy with mine; I've been hit with an awesome concept, and now all I have to do is pull it off.

If you got my prompts, don't worry about sticking to them exactly, I'm very relaxed, and you can go off on all the tangents you like.

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post a reply about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc.

Dig yourself, Lazarus.
So there's this library on my campus, it's a secondary library, far away from the main one, sequestered away in an old corner, and in this library, there's a floor where hardly anybody ever goes. It's full of the most amazing books, in languages I can't begin to recognize, let alone read. I love it. There are, however, some books in English, old, old, old books. Wandering around, as I do sometimes in between study bouts, pulling random books off the shelves, I came across a small, red book that was in tatters, and full of old Irish spells and curses. This is one:

A Charm against Accidents, Fire, Tempests, Water, Knife or Lance.

"Jesus, Savior of men. In Jesus trust, and in Mary trust truly for all grace.
This is the measure of the wounds of Christ upon the Cross, which was brought to Constantinople to the Emperor as a most precious relic, so that no evil enemy might have power over him. And whoever reads it, or hears it, cannot be hurt by fire or tempest, or the knife, or the lance; neither can the devil have power over him, nor will he die an untimely death, but safety from all dangers will be his to the end."

2. All are welcome, Open ID and DW users alike. I just thought Leverage needed a home base on external territory. ;)

3. Posted fic on the Supernatural H/C Meme for the prompt:

Dean, Castiel, Sam (slashy is good but not required, gen good too!)

A demon has a grudge against Castiel (maybe for his role in getting Dean saved, or in killing Alistair). Sam and Dean arrive in time to save their angel, but there's repair & comfort needed, of course.

It's over here.

4. This makes me sick to my stomach. (Review of the new Seth Rogen film 'Observe and Report')

Blatant Self-Indulgence, meet Shameless Prose. Now gang up on Charlie.
Meme from [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl

1. Take five books off your bookshelf.
2. Book #1 -- first sentence
3. Book #2 -- last sentence on page fifty
4. Book #3 -- second sentence on page one hundred
5. Book #4 -- next to the last sentence on page one hundred fifty
6. Book #5 -- final sentence of the book
7. Make the five sentences into a paragraph

I first met Dean not long after my wife and I split up. I murmured an excuse and slipped away, leaving them to their own formidable devices. The eye of the saint, focused on the meaning of a short earthly life, frightful in every way, focused on the imminence of the final decision about an endless new life to come, this burnt-out eye, in a half-wasted body, made men of the old world tremble to their depths. A long, stringy man, wearing three rows of beads around his neck, and a belt of chicken-bones around his waist; his dark skin stained with ashes his hair loose and long - naked except for beads and ashes, the sadhu strides up amongst the red-tiled mansions. I felt like a monster reincarnation of Horatio Alger ... A Man on the Move, and just sick enough to be totally confident.

Which sparked an apocalyptic SPN drabble. Don't ask. Spoilers are vague for S4 )

Suite!Verse Gift Post, part the second.
So [livejournal.com profile] loverstar came to me with an interesting proposition; did I want to create some graphics to go along with the utterly brilliant vid she was creating for [livejournal.com profile] leonidaslion and her magnificent Suite!Verse, said she.
Hell yes, said I.

So, [livejournal.com profile] leonidaslion, here are a series of graphics, in much the same style as the first graphics I created for Suite!Verse, but hopefully this surprise gift will make you happy and keep you inspired! Consider this thanks for writing something so friggin' gorgeous, something that has given me hours and hours of enjoyment.
Much love, Charlie. ;)

Gifts for leonidaslion: Suite!Verse.
Just a couple of graphics inspired [livejournal.com profile] leonidaslion and her incredible Suite!Verse which is a gloriously dark and beautiful 'verse in which Sam has fully become the Antichrist, in both powers and personality, and Dean is imprisoned not only by force, but also by the obsessive love they both still have for each other.

The two graphics are alternate versions of each other, and the text in the first comes from the title of the latest installment.
