Something like a crossroads song

I'm having one of those days where I hate everything and everyone, and anyone who talks to me is either getting infected by this monster mutation of a cold I've contracted, or getting bitchslapped. It doesn't help that it's Open Day at my university - where I live on campus in college - so to get anywhere I have to walk through hordes of grating, unspeakably eager kids who appear - to my fevered brain - to be nothing more than bags of flesh full of dreams swilled from advertisements and coke, and projected personas built on nothing but air, pretension, and the bitter illusion of emancipation. Also, crackwhores.

So what I've learned from this is that it takes me becoming hallucinogenically ill and having to walk through a crowd of sloppily dressed tourists (I mean really people, you're about to go to university, home of the hopelessly indie and the never-say-die-punk. There is no excuse for dirty highschool tracksuits) for me to lose control of my tightly buried font of misanthropic rage.

This has been a PSA coming straight at you from the black oilslick soul of a girl who hasn't eaten solid foods in five days.

In other news, I may become a pornstar.

Linkspam + Doctor Who
So I've always kind of loved Keanu Reeves, a love that has been tempered by the constant Keanu!bashing of the internet. Finally, I am vindicated! Keanu is an awesome guy! Keanu has had a very hard life! Basically, Keanu is awesome! And talented, no matter what people say! Exclamation point!

Keanu Internet Meme:
"I had a few friends working special effects jobs on the Matrix movies, he bought all of them f---ing HARLEYS for Christmas during the shoot for the second one.

One of those guys, Paul, said that Keanu was the most sincere, humble and lovely dude he'd ever met. Said he eschewed contact with the cast in favour of hanging out with the crew, was the only guy the martial arts coaches respected out of the whole cast, and was the bravest man he's ever met."

Salon: Queer Imagery in Lady Gaga's 'Alejandro'.
I loved it. If anyone feels the urge to squee/over-intellectualize with me in the comments, please, act on it. (I'm looking at you Sarah, re: deepthroating a rosary.)

(Also: From here, on entering her dressing room backstage at Berlin:

"With the walls and ceiling draped in black, it resembles a pop-Gothic seraglio. But while scented candles burn churchishly, a gorgeous vintage record player on the floor – surrounded by piles of vinyl – and works of art hung on the wall give it a cheerful air. There is a table, laid with beautiful china. There are flowers, growing in the dark. And at the head of the tea table, among the flowers: Gaga...The effect is one of having been ushered into the presence of a very powerful fairytale queen: possibly one who has recently killed Aslan, on the Stone Table." )

FEMINIST HULK SMASH EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH MS.!

feministhulk: HULK OK. THANKS FOR ASKING.

Could This Be Our Emma Frost?
Rosamund Pike is rumoured to be the forerunner for the part of Emma Frost in the upcoming X-Men: First Class, which is about Magneto and Xavier in their youth. Because Emma is one of my favourite characters, I was initially non-plussed by the choice, as I've only ever seen Rosamund Pike play polite, genteel characters such as Jane Bennet and Johnny Depp's wife in The Libertine. However, the choice has grown on me. She's a talented actress, and I have no doubt that Matthew Vaugh, director of Kick-Ass and Layer Cake, would not be looking at her unless she could pull off the verve of Emma Frost. Besides, I'd much prefer her talented ass to the nightmarish idea of a Hollywood Blonde like Katharine Heigl being hired.

New Sons of Anarchy pictures + News
Apparently, there's going to be a Porn!Party scene. I can get down with that. Also, the Sons of Anarchy chapter in Belfast is called 'Sam Bell'. IDK, I just thinks that's awesome. (Warning, lots of spoilers in the link.)

Doctor Who 5.10: Vincent and the Doctor

The way artwork moves our lives, the strange ways a few swashes of colour on canvas can resonate through the years, imprint on our minds in ways we can't even remember, and the strange, quiescent, quivering fury of things we find beautiful for no reasonable reason at all. I like to think this was the heart of Vincent and the Doctor.

Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I'm working. )

Gold Guns Girls
I was reading this post by [personal profile] paperhearts, which is about the issue she takes with the female leads in series such as Castle and The Mentalist. Among her fine points, was this:

These men (who are not law enforcement officers nor have any law enforcement training) step in, and with a little hocus pocus, manage to do the woman's job better than she does. Never mind that neither of these men have gone through a police academy or received formal training, all it takes is writing crime novels or being a fake psychic to slide in and neatly out-perform a woman who has worked her way for years up the ranks. Worse yet, Lisbon and Beckett are made at times to look incompetent, uncreative, unable to think outside of a box.

And I realized, that this was in fact why I hadn't ever given these shows the time of day. I had always passed them over, for no real, conscious reason, even though, on paper, the characters of Castle and Patrick Jane sound like the kind that I just adore having on my television laptop screen.

I think, therefore genderswap meta. )

But I am yet to attain omnipresent supergalactic oneness.
Is everybody in cyber-land coming out to play yet? I can never figure out the wacky time/space continuum of this place.

(For my Dreamwidth peeps, I'm just crossposting now, and I'm about to put up the Sons of Anarchy primer/picspam I posted on LJ a couple of days ago.)

I spent a happy couple of hours yesterday playing around with my profile because I finally discovered that nothing in the world can stop me from filling it up with as many shiny, pretty things as I want.

So, yay?

I made a little picture bar through the centre out of images found at myheart, which I enjoyed thoroughly, so if anybody wants me to throw one together for them around a theme or just using my basic instincts on you (which ... is not as murderous as it sounds), ask away!

Also, I am currently doped up on painkillers, so take advantage of me before I get back into my right mind. Spinny chairs are fun. You know what movie is awesome? Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. Forget Citizen Kane, that shit's a masterpiece.

I had a little meta spazz with the wondrous [personal profile] egregiouslypink about Gossip Girl, which I adore, by the way, and so here are some of my thoughts - including spoilers for the latest ep - lifted from her comments and loosely grouped around subject matter and variations of insantiy.

The Hurt Locket: Because Gossip Girl would be infinitely better if it took place in a warzone. )

Also, for all those crazy kids on my flist who are into Sons of Anarchy, here's the rockin' theme song:

Dig yourself, Lazarus.
So there's this library on my campus, it's a secondary library, far away from the main one, sequestered away in an old corner, and in this library, there's a floor where hardly anybody ever goes. It's full of the most amazing books, in languages I can't begin to recognize, let alone read. I love it. There are, however, some books in English, old, old, old books. Wandering around, as I do sometimes in between study bouts, pulling random books off the shelves, I came across a small, red book that was in tatters, and full of old Irish spells and curses. This is one:

A Charm against Accidents, Fire, Tempests, Water, Knife or Lance.

"Jesus, Savior of men. In Jesus trust, and in Mary trust truly for all grace.
This is the measure of the wounds of Christ upon the Cross, which was brought to Constantinople to the Emperor as a most precious relic, so that no evil enemy might have power over him. And whoever reads it, or hears it, cannot be hurt by fire or tempest, or the knife, or the lance; neither can the devil have power over him, nor will he die an untimely death, but safety from all dangers will be his to the end."

It's a shock to the cajones, a little death of the system.
[Crossposted to LJ]

Let me tell you a story about a girl.

She was a clever girl, but far too manic for most people; she reached too far into tangents and delved a little too deep into the extrapolation of possible realities for their comfort. You see, she'd had it tough for the last few years, starved, battered down by the gloomy hallmarks of monotonous people and cruel intentions. Then in a burst of colour, sudden and brilliant, she coalesced into what people now see when they look at her.

Her problem, and her gift, was that she was a child. She let forth with unprecedented spouts of creative, insane, joyous chatter. She wrote, she painted, she sang, she screamed, she capslocked the hell out of her life. In her ignorance was cruelty, but she didn't know much of pain or suffering, and didn't recognize it when she doled it out.

She grew up a little. Simmered in her juices. Her halcyon days were over. RBR, here's looking at you, kid. )

In conclusion: don't be scared. Be smart.

Also, an insta!Rec: Souvenirs by [livejournal.com profile] tearful_eye.

It's been around for a few weeks now, but for anyone who watches Life, is vaguely intrigued as to what this Life show lark is that everyone's talking about, or just in general enjoys a beautifully crafted, intense, rockin' vid, take a look. It's only a minute long.

And in non sequitur conclusion:

After reading all the brilliant pundits-meta over at the journals of [livejournal.com profile] bessemerprocess and [livejournal.com profile] sarken, I scribbled down some:
